Symptom
The below error appears when trying to import files during Batch Upload:
"Malformed UTF-8 characters found in import file."
Explanation
The most common reason is the use of Google Sheets to extract the CSV. Google Sheets is inconsistent about using quotes (it only uses quotes when it strictly needs to).
Resolution
Please use some more reliable spreadsheet software instead of Google Sheets when extracting the CSV. We recommend downloading the sample file as a Microsoft Excel file and exporting it to CSV.
When populating the sheet, please ensure to remove our sample entry because this text is multiline, which can be handled by Excel but not by Google Sheets.
Things to Consider When Performing a Batch Upload
- Titles (column A) should be unique - otherwise, the same title will update the Map Location instead of adding it.
- The location field (column Q) should be filled in so that the location can be identified. This can be using an address, a business name, or GPS co-ordinates.
- It is recommended to update the Enter URL and the Tooltip Content fields. The Batch Upload still may work with these are left blank, however, updating these fields will help when viewing the map.
- If there are several locations in your batch upload, then we do recommend starting with a lower number e.g. 10, to ensure the locations are being updated on your map.
